Jimmy Carter Tells It Like It Is: America Is An Oligarchy
In a bold statement that he said on the Thom Hartmann radio program last week Monday, former President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, let loose a harsh assessment of today’s political infrastructure, where unlimited cash has turned the country’s politicians into nothing less that bribe takers.
You can see the interview on YouTube.
It’s a shock for a former president to make a statement as he has, but it’s true. Today, dark money, money contributed by big corporations, individuals, and unions, is sent to nonprofits that don’t have a limit on how much they spend on politicians. Politicians on both sides of the fence gobble up this money and there’s no end in sight.
Carter lambasted the process saying that it is, “unlimited political bribery” and has produced “a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors.”. Carter went further to say about both parties that they “look upon this unlimited money as a great benefit to themselves.”
Carter pointed out the Citizens United group as an example of the campaign financing gone awry, thanks to recent Supreme Court rulings in favor of such practices.
The former president went into detail regarding his viewpoints. He stated that the practice, “violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president.” Carter continued, “And the same thing applies to governors and US senators and congress members. So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.”.
The truth hurts, and Carter just put a hurting on the powers behind the thrones of politics with his assessment.
The American people have grown more frustrated at the unwillingness of politicians to clean up the election process, and all three branches of government are guilty in allowing this to go on. It’s clear that the lawyers who rule all three branches have created a sub-culture in which their particular occupation is the controlling entity that uses American resources to allow them to flourish and control all aspects of government and industry. Backed by immense capital from the wealthy, these lawyers change the laws in their favor, and the wellbeing of the American people, and the peoples of the world, are nowhere near a priority in their eyes. It’s simple racketeering on a massive scale and is the total opposite of what the Founding Fathers had intended for America.
In addition, the extra tragedy is you won’t see this issue brought up with any fervor by the mainstream media, although it’s a glaring outpoint that even a blind man could see. It’s because the mainstream media is owned by the same 1% via conglomerates that violates the precepts of monopolization. It’s a shrewd tactic where the laws regarding monopolization have been changed. De-regulation is in play, allowing these companies to control what’s reported and focused on in the media, thus not informing the public. In addition, changing the laws of commerce and politics in their favor, as well as the laws regarding the safeguards to prevent such actions. The public won’t or can’t fight back because of threats of losing jobs and even hostile retaliation from the powers that be.
Politicians are too cowardly to stand up and fight, except a few, because they’re afraid of losing money and influence and getting attacked with lawsuits or worse.
Jimmy Carter should be awarded a medal for standing up and pointing out what’s wrong with American politics and business, but you won’t see such accolades showered upon him by the mainstream media, however, social networking, alternative media is now a juggernaut that the sinister forces behind big money are terrified of. They know that the people are getting the inside scoop via diligent independent reporters and news agencies from around the world that have money and manpower. The powers that be live in stark terror that some hacking group will undo their darkest secrets and lay them out for billions to see. Just one disgruntled employee can crash their house of cards with just one email. It’s happened before and will happen again.
It’s only a matter of time before this practice of nefarious campaign funding will end and the pressure is on the executive branch to do so. Obama could end it with the stroke of a pen, but he’s shown reluctance to go against the criminal elite. Probably because they have something on him that they’re holding as a playing card or because he fears retaliation from other politicians if he cuts off this massive revenue stream.
Carter is the first hero here, perhaps others will follow in his footsteps. We can only hope.
