Yesterday evening, President Barack Obama hosted his last White House Correspondents’ dinner, an annual even where Administration officials meet with the Washington press corp and an impressive number of celebrities.
Trump simply got owned
The President had a literally amazing speech, delivering pun after pun, making pop-culture references and, our favorite part, roasting the Republican front-runner Donald Trump. Of course, he maintained an elegant note in his speech, like always.
“I am a little hurt he’s not here tonight,” the president said about Trump. “And it is surprising. You got a room full of reporters, celebrities, cameras. And he says no? Is this dinner too tacky for the Donald? What could he possibly be doing instead? Is he at home eating a Trump steak? Tweeting out insults to Angela Merkel? What’s he doing?”
But this wasn’t the only time when President Obama mentioned Trump, as he continued with ridiculing his involvement with the Miss Universe beauty pageant and the bankruptcy of Trump Plaza, according to Fortune.
“The Republican establishment is incredulous that he’s the likely nominee. Shocking!” Obama said. “They say Donald lacks the foreign policy experience to be president. But in fairness, he has spent years meeting with leaders from around the world: Ms Sweden, Ms. Argentina, Ms. Azerbaijan.”
This might as well be considered a stand-up show!
Finally, one of the most delightful moments was when President Barack Obama agreed that Trump’s experience might be useful in closing Guantanamo. “Because Trump knows a thing or two about running waterfront properties into the ground.”
Barack Obama stayed away from endorsing any candidate until now, but it’s no secret that Hillary Clinton is his favorite, as he indirectly said a few times. Also, the former Secretary of State has not once mentioned that she wants to continue the President’s policy, so roasting Trump is not much of a surprise.
